President’s message
Spring 2022 promises the return of in person activities that you might have only heard about at Cherry Chase. I hope you’re eager to check out upcoming school activities made possible by your PTA, including afterschool programs (see below for registration details) and the annual Walk-A-Thon & Auction (see e-Blasts after February break for volunteer and donation sign ups). But before you join the fun on campus, complete two required 2021-2022 school year approval forms, one for each child and one for you.
- For each student: Complete the annual liability waiver here, which allows student participation in all PTA hosted events (afterschool programs, Walk-A-Thon, and more)
- For each adult: Get cleared to be on campus via the annual “volunteer information form” here (it’s required for all adult non-staff on campus, whether volunteering or not).

Do you want to help the students and staff at Cherry Chase? Do you want to help shape the future of the Cherry Chase PTA? Do you want to help the PTA find the “new normal” for Cherry Chase? Your PTA is looking for people to be part of the PTA Executive Board for the next school year. We have multiple positions open for the next school year, and these roles just require your energy and willingness to make our school better for all of our children. And don’t forget, ONLY people who are officially cleared by the school to volunteer will be allowed on campus for the March 25 Walk-A-Thon.

Student shirt sizes are based on grade level. Students in grades K-1 will be given a Youth Small by default, while grades 2-3 get Youth Medium, and grades 4-5 get Youth Large.

Afterschool Programs back on site at Cherry Chase
PTA is very excited to bring Afterschool Programs’ back on site at Cherry Chase.

Please note spots are limited and offered on a first come first serve. PTA is actively looking for volunteers and parents willing to be chairs to help out in the smooth running of these programs

San Jose Chess Club ( https://www.sjchess.org ) is excited to restart in person Chess Club for all K-5 Cherry Chase students SOON!
Enrollment for Spring Session # 1 will begin on Feb 18th at 9:00 am at: https://www.
There will be 6 classes during this Spring Session # 1 held on 03/4, 03/11, 03/18, 03/25, 4/1, 4/8.
To be able to maintain safe covid protocols , class sizes will be reduced . All students must be masked indoors during Chess Club.
There will be two classes offered at the following times.
Grades : K-3; Location: Multi
Friday : 1:00-2:00pm
Grades : 4-5; Location: Muti
Friday : 2:45-3:45pm

Girls On The Run (GOTR)
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a social-emotional program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that creatively uses a fun curriculum and physical activity to teach critical life skills, such as developing healthy friendships, managing emotions, standing up for yourself and others, and how to set goals and make intentional decisions.
Coaches will lead small groups of girls through discussions and fun games and workouts to promote empowerment and healthy lifestyle choices, all while training them to run/walk a 5K (3.1 miles). The 8-week season starts the week of March 14 and ends with the celebratory Girls on the Run 5K on May 21. The classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays at Cherry Chase from 2:30pm to 4pm. The cost is $230 per girl and financial assistance is available to all families during the registration process. For the last 17 years the “Step by Step” technique has been a method that makes drawing easier to learn.
We begin by teaching step by step lessons which improve drawing and thus we gradually begin to introduce them to painting.

Soccer for All Grades at Cherry Chase
We teach our soccer players both technical and tactical skills.
Good soccer technique is having good ball and body control. Our players learn how to receive
the ball, control it and how to pass, shoot and defend correctly. We especially
focus on dribbling fast and changing direction and we teach advanced moves and fakes.
